NEJM: Drying conjunctivitis in patients with dry syndrome - case reported.

The patient, a 64-year-old woman, went to the rheumatology department for five months with eye pain and foreign feeling.
further inquiries, the patient reported that she had had dry eyes and dry mouth for about 20 years and had not been specifically diagnosed or treated.
The patient's vision in each eye was 20/25, and a fissure lamp examination found that the conjunctivitis was congestive, the corneal epithelirsis and the corneal endothragm folding were consistent with dry corneal conjunctivitis (as shown in Figures A and B).

Schirmer test found a decrease in tear production, serological examination found that the antinucleoant antibody had a 1:160 effectiveness, the antibody of antigen A (Ro52) associated with Sjögren syndrome was positive, and the rheumatoid factor increased to 66 IU/ml (reference value of 20 IU/ml).
the patient was diagnosed with dry syndrome, and local treatments for eye symptoms included cyclosporine A and artificial tear fluid.
the patient's symptoms disappear after 2 months.
