    Science and Technology Daily News reported that neonicotinoid insecticides are currently the world’s largest type of plant-derived insecticides.


    Nicotine as an insecticide has a history of use dating back to the 17th century, but it was not until the 1980s that Bayer successfully developed the first nicotine pesticide, imidacloprid


    Regarding the negative effects of neonicotinoid insecticides, some studies have recently appeared, establishing a link between the use of such insecticides and the decrease of non-target species, such as pollinators.
