Nepal and Bangladesh agreed to jointly invest in hydropower projects

Nepal and Bangladesh have agreed to make joint investments
in hydropower projects.
The decision was made at Friday's meeting of energy ministers between the two countries and included items
covered by a white paper released at a meeting a year ago.

Nepal's state news agency said that the two energy ministries have reached an agreement on joint investment in hydropower projects, including the export of hydropower to Bangladesh to replace coal power
.

In addition to co-investing in hydropower projects, the two sides also agreed to continue to explore more possibilities for cooperation in power infrastructure, including transmission infrastructure
.

Bangladesh has a policy to import 9,000 megawatts of electricity
from Nepal by 2040.
To this end, the focus is on the construction of transmission lines, selection of projects and cooperation in alternative energy sources

Under the preliminary agreement, both countries will use India's transmission infrastructure to enable cross-border trade
in electricity from India.
