To increase power generation, the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) plans to build 10 new hydropower projects
from this financial year.
According to the Nepal Electricity Authority, the construction of four dam projects with a total installed capacity of 1969 MW has been started, and there are 6 small hydropower projects with a total installed capacity of 138 MW
.
Kul Man Ghising, managing director of NEA, said, "We are considering these projects as an important force
for domestic power balancing and maintaining loads.

The country is currently forced to import electricity during the dry season due to the lack of dam projects such as Kulekhani, and Kul Man Ghising said, "so we have to develop some projects to address the situation
.

As planned, 140 MW of Tahahu hydropower is ready for construction
.
The project development company is also building a 104 MW Lower Seti hydropower project, which is undergoing detailed engineering
.
In addition, detailed engineering and environmental impact assessments for the 1,060 MW Upper Arun hydropower project are underway, and consulting firms are preparing tender documents
for the construction of large-scale projects.
Under an earlier agreement, the World Bank has committed to investing in the project
.
Other international agencies have also expressed interest in investing in the project
.
Similarly, the consulting firm is carrying out detailed engineering design of the 635 MW Dudhkoshi dam project and preparing tender documents
for its construction.
Advances in small-scale hydropower projects are also underway, including the 30 MW Ekhuwa Khola hydropower plant, the 37 MW Upper Trishuli III B hydropower plant, and the 40 MW Raghuganga hydropower plant
.
Through the above 10 hydropower projects, the Nepal Electricity Authority plans to improve the balance of the domestic electricity supply market in times of drought, reduce dependence on imported electricity, and strengthen domestic energy security
