Nestlé launches 100% rPET plastic bottles for its UK drinking water brand

Recently, Nestle promised that its Buxton natural mineral water brand will be made from 100% recycled PET material (rPET)

In November, Nestlé launched 100% rPET bottles in the 750ml and 1L ranges, and other plastic bottles currently contain at least 20% rPET

These steps by Nestlé will greatly reduce the amount of virgin plastic in circulation

Michel Beneventi, UK business executive, Nestlé Waters, said, “We are very pleased to be able to put our sustainability commitments into practice

"We wanted to quickly make all of our Buxton plastic bottles from recycled materials, but there were a lot of challenges to doing that - first we had to make sure the materials we used were high-quality food grade

Since there are currently no facilities in the UK to mass-produce this rPET material, Nestlé relies mainly on rPET material suppliers outside the UK to supply recycled material for Buxton bottles

Beneventi added: “We want to be able to produce UK drinking water bottles in the UK

Nestlé has committed to making 100% of its packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025
