Tension-type headache (TTH) is one of the most common primary headaches and is characterized by bilateral insidious, mild to moderate pain

Acupuncture is a routine treatment for primary headaches in China and has been reported to be effective in previous randomized controlled trials and subsequent Cochrane systematic reviews

The researchers conducted a randomized controlled trial that recruited 218 participants diagnosed with CTTH from June 2017 to September 2020

TA treatment for 8 weeks was effective in preventing CTTH

This study provides class I evidence that acupuncture (to achieve a sense of deqi) reduces the average number of headache days per month in people with chronic tension-type headache
