The frontal brain network is important for walking and executive functions

The current preliminary research proves the feasibility and safety of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) research to improve the walking and executive functions of the elderly through the neuroplastic frontal brain network

Step evidence shows that after tDCS combined with complex walking rehabilitation, compared with sham tDCS and/or rehabilitation control interventions that only include walking

Design

Participants participated in a 6-week, 18-course walking rehabilitation intervention, led by a physical therapist

Prefrontal lobe activity when walking

90% of the participants successfully completed the intervention program

In short, 18 courses of tDCS combined with complex walking rehabilitation are feasible, safe, and well tolerated in the elderly
