    Global Coatings Network News:

Akzo Nobel launched a new pioneering coating technology EvCote™ Water Barrier 3000, thanks to this technology, cold drink paper cups can be completely degraded and recycled.
EvCote™ technology is derived from plant-based oils and recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles.
No special treatment is required for the use of this technology, whether in production or recycling.

Conrad, a member of Akzo Nobel’s management committee responsible for the high-performance coatings business, said: “This pioneering innovative technology will help revolutionize the paper cup industry and bring economic and environmental benefits to related industries in the value chain.
New coating technology It will also help restaurant owners and paper cup manufacturers to reduce waste.
AB Ghosh, the global managing director of Akzo Nobel Industrial Coatings Business Group, added: “Our products have attracted great attention from the market, just as the waxing technology for paper cups has been developed 40 years ago.
Like the transformation of polyethylene technology, we expect this new technology will also promote a huge change in the paper cup production industry.
    "

At present, about 200 billion paper cups are consumed globally every year, but the current recycling of paper cups will incur high costs or greatly reduce the quality of paper fibers, which further highlights the significance of Akzo Nobel’s technology.
When the paper cups with EvCote™ coating are recycled, the quality of the paper fibers is intact, which means that these paper cups can be used to produce other paper products.
Even in some cases, EvCote™ coatings can make paper fibers tougher, so paper products made from recycled paper cups will even be tougher than paper products that have not previously used the coating.

Another advantage of this technology is that it enables paper mills to recycle 100% of the waste paper produced during the production of paper cups.
All of these waste papers were originally sent to the garbage dump for landfill.
This will bring great benefits to paper cup factories.
    Big cost savings.
The amount of waste paper produced during the production of paper cups is staggering, enough to circle the Empire State Building 6,300 times.

Gil Sherman, Akzo Nobel Paper Coatings Business Development Manager, added: “For paper cup manufacturers, paper is a very high single cost, so the recycling of waste paper means a win-win for economic and environmental benefits.
Through bio-based PET With the development of EvCote™ technology, we have provided customers with an alternative to petroleum-based PE (polyethylene) film, which means that we can now completely get rid of our dependence on the petroleum supply chain.

95% of the raw materials of EvCote™ coatings come from environmentally friendly and renewable materials, which can make the surface of the paper waterproof, grease-proof and moisture-proof.
The technology can also be applied to a variety of other products, such as corrugated boxes, folding cartons, beverage cartons and food packaging.

The research and development of innovative technologies such as EvCote™ is an important part of AkzoNobel's sustainable development strategy "Planet Possible", and will help the "People·City" plan to create a cleaner, livable city community.
