New immunotherapy may help prolong the survival of a common brain cancer patient

SYDNEY, Aug. 18 (Xinhua Chen Yu) Australia's Berghofer Institute of Medicine has developed a new cell immunotherapy that has extended the average survival of patients with polygonal glioblastoma in clinical trials. The paper has been published in a new issue of the American Journal of Clinical Examinations.

Rajif Connor, a professor at the Berghofer Institute of Medicine, and colleagues have developed a new cellular immunotherapy that extracts blood samples from patients in clinical trials and re-enters human T-cells into patients so they can identify and kill cytovires, the Berghofer Institute for Medicine said in a press release. Previous studies have suggested that the incidence of polygonal glioblastoma may be associated with cytocytovirus infection, because cytocytovirus in patient cancer cells expression rate is very high.
phase I clinical trial, 25 patients with polygonal glioblastoma who had completed routine treatments such as surgery received this immunotherapy as an auxiliary treatment. The results showed that the average survival of these patients increased to 21 months, which is higher than the average survival of patients with this type of brain cancer, and that the therapy is safe for patients. The researchers say the treatment will be further improved.
