A new research project in the School of Applied Natural Sciences of the Technical University of Cologne is looking at ways to further improve the properties of polymer water dispersions.
these water-based polymer dispersions as liquid raw materials for paints and coatings, adhesives and other everyday products. The project entitled "Applied Research on Dispersed Collate Polymers" (DiscoPol) is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for a period of three years and totals approximately EUR 600,000
.
Cosco is one of the project's two industrial partners. The company is the world's leading supplier of polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) and is a leader in research and development and processing technology.
Trends: Water-based coatings and adhesives
" Paint and adhesive manufacturers around the world are increasingly choosing to replace solvent-based products with more sustainable water-based systems, such as PUDs, as long as they have the same excellent properties," said Michael Friede, global head of coatings, adhesives, specialty divisions. At Cosco Ventures. "Our comprehensive product range opens up many applications in many industries. This will create growth opportunities and enhance customer competitiveness. The
for a wide range
polyurethane dispersions consist mainly of water and finely dispersed polyurethanes. They are mainly used as film forming agents or adhesives in coatings for initial and repair of automobiles, wood and furniture coatings as well as sturdy floor coatings, as well as textile coatings and fiberglass coatings.
