Nexans has completed the manufacture of 220 kV offshore cables
for the high-voltage power outlet connection for the 588 MW Beatrice offshore wind farm.
Nexans completes manufacturing of Beatrice offshore wind farm offshore cables
The cable has been loaded onto a Skaggerrak cable-laying vessel, crossed the North Sea to the Mari Gulf, then installed and then buried to the seabed
by Nexans' Capjet system.
In addition, the first of the two 400 kV overland cable links and the high-voltage fittings have been installed and tested
in the field.
To export energy from the wind farm to the grid, two offshore cables travel along a 70-kilometre route under the sea to the landing site
west of Portgordon on the Malian coast.
The transition joint cabins then connect them to the offshore cable system, which takes a 20-kilometer route to the Blackhillock substation
.
From there, 400 kV onshore cables will transmit power to the grid
.
Nexans' scope of work includes the design, manufacture, testing, delivery and installation of a total of 265 km of cables, including 145 km of 220 kV offshore cables, 115 km of 220 kV and 5 km of 400 kV land cables and related high-voltage accessories
.
"The Beatrice project is a perfect example of our turnkey grid connection solution for offshore wind farms? The ability to
case.
Vincent Dessale, senior executive vice president of Nexans' Subsea and Land Systems business group, said
.
The Beatrice offshore wind farm project is scheduled to be fully operational in 2019 and is being built
by Power South Scotland, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Red Rock Power Limited.
The wind farm has a total of 84 wind turbines that will be able to generate enough electricity to power
about 450,000 homes.
The offshore cables for the Beatrice offshore wind farm are produced by Halden, Norway and installed
by Nexans Norway.
The land cable is manufactured at the Benelux plant in Charleroi, Belgium, and installed
by Nexans France.
The relevant high-voltage fittings are delivered
by Nexans Switzerland.
