French cable manufacturer Nexans has been awarded a turnkey contract worth more than $113 million in the Philippines for the manufacture, delivery and installation
of 350 kV submarine high-voltage DC cables in the Philippines.

According to reports, Nexans is awarded a complete turnkey contract
for the Mindanao-Visayas Undersea Interconnection Project (MVIP) initiated by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

To optimize the delivery of MVIP's subsea cabling system, Nexans will leverage its global manufacturing footprint to interconnect the three power grids of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, unified into the Philippine National Grid
    .

The 350 kV submarine high-voltage DC cable will be produced
by Nexans' high-voltage cable plant in Tomitsu, Japan, and its Halden plant in Norway.
Nexans' own dedicated cable laying vessel, C/S Nexans Skagerrak, will carry out installation and protection work
at water depths of up to 650 meters.

"Nexans is pleased to once again be trusted by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to establish the Group's successful portfolio of projects in the region," said Vincent Dessale, Senior Executive Vice President, Subsea and Land Systems Business at Nexans.

With the completion of the MVIP Subsea Interconnection Project, it is expected that by 2020, the Philippines will further ensure a more stable and secure power supply in the country and maximize the use of locally available energy resources
