Indonesia's government has pledged to ensure telecommunications and broadband access
for the country's fast-growing population of 267 million.
In line with this vision, Indonesian telecommunications company Moratelindo will continue to develop a nationwide fiber optic network to build the Jayabaya high-speed submarine cable system for the island of Java, and Nexans, the world's second-largest cable manufacturer, will supply a total of 915 kilometers of fiber optic cable
for the project.
The Jayabaya submarine cable system will provide a fiber optic connection
between Jakarta, the capital and largest city of Indonesia, and Surabaya, the capital of East Java Province on Java.
The link will include three submarine cable sections: Jakarta to Cirebon; Cirebon to Semarang; Semarang to Surabaya
.
The fiber optic cable is based on Nexans' 24-core no-multiplexing (URC-1) design
.
Near the coast, when the water depth is below 20 meters, it will adopt a double armor (DA) structure to prevent damage
caused by transportation and fishing activities.
For depths of 20 to 200 meters, single-armored (SA) fiber optic cables
will be deployed.
"In today's hyper-connected world, reliable communication and broadband services are important factors in the socio-economic development of any country," said Hans-Martin Norstrøm, Sales Manager of Nexans Undersea Telecommunications and Specialty Cables (STSC) Division.

Currently, cable installation of the submarine cable system is underway and is expected to be completed
by the end of November 2018.
