EuroAsia Interconnector Limited, the project developer of the European Power Interconnect Project connecting the national grids of Israel, Cyprus and Greece (Crete), announced that Nexans has been selected as the preferred bidder for the supply and installation of 500 kV HVDC cables for the project, responsible for the production, fabrication, laying and commissioning of impregnated (MI) cables
for the 1,000MW Cyprus-Greece (Crete) link.
EuroAsia Interconnector is a major project for the EU Common Interest (PCI), including the power system of Cyprus-Greece (Crete) and Cyprus-Israel with DC submarine cables, as well as the power interconnection
of HVDC converter stations at each connection point.
The total capacity of the link is currently 1,000MW, and it can be expanded to 2,000MW
in the future.
EuroAsia Interconnector will be an energy bridge between Asia and Europe, with a total length of 1,208 kilometers, creating a reliable transmission corridor
for two-way power transmission between Asia and Europe.
The EuroAsia Interconnector between Greece and Cyprus will be the longest and deepest high-voltage DC submarine cable project
ever.
Christopher Guérin, CEO of Nexans, said: "We are delighted to be the trusted bidder of choice for the development of
the Eurasian Internet.
At Nexans, we are at the forefront of providing safer, sustainable, renewable, decarbonised electrification for all – and we look forward to contributing to
ensuring the EU's electricity supply.
