On December 15th the North Pacific Fisheries Management Board (NPFMC) approved a total permitted catch of 1.375 million tonnes of green cod (TAC) in the Eastern Bering Strait, a 3.5 per cent decrease from the 2020 TAC (1.425 million tonnes).
TCC for green cod in the Aleshin Islands in 2021 remains the same as this year, at 19,000 tonnes.
2021 TAT in the Gulf of Alaska (GOA) was set at 113,227 tons, down nearly 2.4 percent from 2020.
NPFMC committee approved 111,380 tonnes of Pacific cod TACH in the Bering Strait, a 21 per cent decrease from the 141,799 tonnes approved in 2020.
same time, the Pacific cod TTC on Alushin Island was set at 13,796 tonnes, the same as in 2020.
2021 TAT in the Gulf of Alaska (GOA) was set at 17,321 tonnes, a 169 per cent increase over 2020.
NPFMC reports that Alaskan cod spawning is expected to continue to decline in 2021, with 136,4949 tonnes of green cod caught in the Eastern Bering Strait by 7 November, below the full quota.
Russia has kept its 2021 green cod quota at 1.996 million tonnes, an increase of just 0.1 per cent from this year's 1.994 million tonnes.
