Sinochem News reported on April 19 that Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Japan's shipping company Nippon Yusen signed a contract for ships fueled by liquefied petroleum gas and liquefied ammonia

This is NYK's third LPG/NH₃ vessel and the 76th LPG vessel, 13th LPG-fueled LPG vessel and 6th LPG/NH₃ vessel to be built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries

The 86,700-cubic-meter ship is equipped with separate cargo holds that can carry both LPG and NH₃ , and is expected to be completed in 2024

The new carrier will also have a larger cargo hold capacity than conventional cargo ships, Kawasaki said

It will use low-sulfur fuel oil and liquefied petroleum gas, which is said to significantly reduce emissions of pollutants such as sulfur oxides and carbon dioxide in exhaust gas compared to marine fuel oil

As a result, the vessel will comply with the SOx emission standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), as well as with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Stage 3 regulations for the adoption of stricter CO2 regulations in 2022 emission standards

In addition, the vessel is equipped with a shaft generator that converts the rotational energy of the main engine into electricity
