The purpose of this study is to conduct a meta-analysis of the effects of bariatric surgery on women's sexual function.
researchers searched the PubMed, EMBASE and CENTRAL databases as of August 2019.
If the article examines the effects of bariatric surgery on sexual function in obese women, it is eligible for inclusion if evaluated through the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) or/and pelvic organ prolapse/Urine Incontinence Questionnaire (PISQ-12).
results and included twenty articles for a meta-analysis.
analysis found that bariatric surgery was associated with a significant increase in total FSFI scores.
when the parameters contained in the FSFI scoring system were individually evaluated, significant improvements in libido, sexual arousal, lubrication, orgasm, sexual satisfaction and sexual pain were observed.
, however, there was no significant change in PISQ-12 and FSFI scores for women with postoperative pelvic floor disorder (PFD).
, the results show that bariatric surgery can improve the sexual function of obese patients, but not pfD women's sexual function.
