A recent analysis by the Pew Charitable Trusts and SYSTEMIQ found that the amount of plastic flowing into the oceans each year will nearly triple by 2040 without immediate and sustained action

The study found that if nothing is done to address the projected growth in plastic production and consumption, the amount of plastic entering the oceans will rise from 11 million tonnes to 29 million tonnes annually over the next 20 years

The report argues that governments and industry are currently committed to reducing the amount of plastic flowing into the ocean by only 7% by 2040
