Recently, Wasant Kumar of the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy at the University of Cambridge issued a statement at the 4th International Lead Recycling Conference, which pointed out that the lead-acid battery industry has shown a trend of diversification, and off-grid power storage systems are an area tailored for lead-acid battery chemistry, which will depend on the creation
of small clean smelters.
Kunar said that if we are committed to the construction of small-scale off-grid systems in remote areas, we need small-scale environmentally friendly lead-acid battery recycling systems, so we need to transform renewable energy problems into environmental protection problems

He said the University of Cambridge has developed new technologies
on a small scale to safely recover lead from batteries.
The method is to dissolve the lead-containing active material in the battery in a carboxylic acid solution extracted from plants, and then precipitate
the lead-containing organic crystals.
Groups of lead-acid batteries are used in rural off-grid projects to store peak electricity
from renewable sources.
