Oman's first clean coal stand-alone power generation project in Doukam is awaiting final permission from the government before the procurement process can progress
, local media reports in Oman.
Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP), part of Oman's Nama Group, oversees the procurement process
related to the proposed 1,200 MW power plant based on clean coal technology in the Dukem Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Oman Observer reported.
The prequalification process, launched last May, has reverberated with a number of international developers, indicating their interest in participating in competitive tenders to establish landmark projects

"The procurement process continues and we are ready to issue our Request for Proposal (RfP) for coal projects," said Brian Wood, OPWP's director of planning and economics, "but we are awaiting final government approval
for the project.

"The plant will comply with the latest international standards for environmental quality and emission control and is expected to reduce the demand for natural gas in the power sector by 4-500 standard cubic meters per day, enabling the oil and gas sector to offer new industrial projects
.

According to state-run power buyers, the proposed Dukem Clean Coal IPP is expected to provide 600 MW of capacity by 2024 and reach 1,200 MW of full power in 2025, but only if it receives "timely approvals.
"
Brian Wood revealed, "The plant will provide the necessary power supply to the growing Dukem industrial center and export surplus power
to the main interconnection system (MIS).
