    Cell production capacity plays an important role in a variety of biological processes such as cell movement, cytokinesis and tissue morphogenesis


    The researchers designed an optogenetic tool to directly inactivate non-myosin II, which synergizes with actin filaments to produce cell contractility


    "In order to develop OptoMYPT, we used a tool called iLID that uses light to control the positioning of proteins


    As expected, when cells expressing OptoMYPT were exposed to blue light, PP1c was translocated to the cell membrane, thereby reducing the contractile force mediated by actin and myosin


    In order to understand the mechanism of cell division, the research team applied their OptoMYPT to cell division


    "We believe that this tool, OptoMYPT, will help understand various embryological and cell biology phenomena involving the actomyosin cytoskeleton," said Professor Kazuhiro Aoki, a member of the research team
