Uk, the UK-based Parkinson's disease charity, has announced plans to invest more than a million pounds in the development of treatments to slow the progression of the disease.
The charity is working with NRG Therapeutics Ltd to identify and develop a potential drug that protects damaged dopamine cells in Parkinson's disease and slows the progression of the disease.
Based on recent findings of a direct link between mitochondrial dysfunction and dopamine cell loss, Parkinson's UK, a Parkinson's disease charity, will invest up to a million pounds in NRG Therapeutics to turn this ground-breaking research into a potential treatment.
Initial investment from NRG Therapeutics, a parkinson's disease charity in the UK, will support the identification of new small molecules that may enter the brain and protect mitochondrials in dopamine-producing cells.
Dr Arthur Roach, research director at Parkinson's UK, a charity, said: "We all know that finding a better treatment for Parkinson's is very much needed, which can slow the progression of the disease. This ground-breaking study may be the first step in identifying molecules that protect dopamine from the mitochondrials in cells. Parkinson
is a condition that has gradually damaged parts of the brain over the years. The three main symptoms of the disease are involuntary shaking of specific parts of the body (tremors), slow movement, and stiff and stiff muscles. It affects 148,000 people in the UK, or about 350 of the adult population. (Compiled by this web)
