June 12 (UPI) -- Young people's IQ scores have begun to deteriorate after a steady climb since World War II, a new study has found.
this decline in IQ scores is equivalent to a decline of about seven points per generation, and scientists who have conducted authoritative studies of the phenomenon suggest that this decline in IQ scores occurred in people born after 1975.
this decline in IQ scores heralds the end of a trend known as the Flynn effect, which refers to an increase of about three points per decade in IQ scores over the past 60 to 70 years.
, according to Time magazine, scientists say the results are not only shocking but also worrying.
scientists suggest that this decline in IQ scores is linked to differences in language and math teaching methods in schools.
however, this phenomenon is also related to people spending more time on electronic devices than reading. Stuart Ritchie, a psychologist at the University of Edinburgh at the
, said: "This is the most convincing evidence of a reversal of the Flynn effect.
If you assume that their model is correct, the results are not only shocking but also quite worrying.
"But according to previous studies, the decline in IQ scores may have occurred since the turning point of the millennium.
two studies in the UK have shown that IQ scores drop by 2.5 to 4.3 points every ten years.
but their results are not widely recognized because of the limitations of research. in the latest study,
, Ole Rogeburg and Bernt Bratsberg of the Ragnarok-Frith Centre for Economics at the University of Oslo found that Norwegian men scored lower IQ scores than their parents at the same age.
two researchers analyzed standard IQ test scores for more than 730,000 men, all from a national service between 1970 and 2009.
has previously been studied for IQ, and a scientist claimed in December that eating fish regularly would improve children's intelligence and help them improve their sleep.
they found that children between the ages of 9 and 11 who ate fish at least once a week scored nearly five points higher on IQ tests than those who ate less fish.
in a study conducted by U.S. researchers, more than 500 children were surveyed about how often they ate fish in the past month, never to least once a week.
after taking into account factors such as their parents' education, occupation and marital status, the researchers found that children who ate fish at least once a week had an IQ score of 4.8 points higher than those who never ate fish.
even children who ate fish occasionally had an IQ score of 3.3 points higher than those who did not eat fish.
