Pirelli has completed the upgrade of its tire plants in Voronezh and Kirov, Russia, over three years with a total investment of USD 220 million
.
Pirelli acquired both plants
in 2010.
Pirelli said that the structural reconstruction of the 70-year-old Voronezh plant, the renovation of the old building, the installation of new mixing equipment and the introduction of Pirelli's technology and processes, making it "one of the most technologically advanced plants"
in Russia.
The Voronezh plant was founded in 1946, and after World War II, the Soviet Union produced tires for bicycles, motorcycles, passenger cars, tractors and
trucks.
Pirelli said that currently, the plant produces 16-21-inch premium car tires for the Russian replacement tire and OE market, and exports them to Eastern and Western European countries
.
The Kirov plant was created 3 years earlier than the Voronezh plant, at the height of World War II, and the Yaroslavl plant was at risk of being blown up, so production was transferred to the Kirov plant
.
The plant currently produces 13- to 16-inch tires under the Pirelli and Amtel brands, and is a tire supplier
to many Russian car companies.
Pirelli said: "After taking over the Kirov plant and its partner Rostec, Pirelli carried out a major modernization
of the plant in December 2011.
”
Pirelli and Rostec form a joint venture, Pirelli Tyre Russia, in which Pirelli owns 65% of the joint venture and operates the Voronezh and Kirov tyre plants
.
