Crohn's disease is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes inflammation of the digestive tract

The results of the study were published in the journal "Scientific Reports" under the title "Crohn's disease adults show increased female fat and decreased male fat, regardless of disease recurrence or remission

"Crohn's disease (CD) is a debilitating inflammatory bowel disease with unknown etiology

The research team assessed the dietary intake, physical activity, and overall or regional body composition of patients with relapsed or remitted celiac disease

"People with Crohn's disease have different ways of transforming fat into their bodies.

"In our research, it is clear that in the abdominal area where the intestines are located, Crohn’s disease-related ulcers or lesions and inflammation are associated with higher fat deposits

Dunn explained: "At UL, our research focuses on intestinal diseases, using new methods generated by the insights and diverse perspectives of UL and UHL researchers

"We combine our new knowledge in intestinal anatomy and biochemical signals with UL's expertise in body composition analysis

He added: "We also found that people with Crohn's disease seem to absorb fat into their bodies in a different way than people who don't have the disease

Further research is needed, but this analysis and discovery opens up a new way to understand and investigate Crohn's disease
