Powder coatings are attracting increasing attention in the wood sector , where powder coatings have revolutioned the coating industry over the past 30 years with their excellent performance, durability and environmental protection, especially in metal products such as electrical appliances, automotive parts, sporting goods and other metal products. Advances in raw materials, construction processes and curing methods in recent years have made it possible for powder coatings to be used in thermal substrates, which are now used in areas considered impossible several years ago. One of the major breakthroughs is the application of medium density fiberboard (MDF). According to
    China Coatings Onlineexperts
, MDF is a wood or plant fiber by mechanical separation and chemical treatment means, mixed with adhesives and waterproofing agents, and then by high temperature, high pressure molding made of an artificial sheet, due to its low porosity and uniform surface characteristics, is a very suitable base for powder coating. MDF products include office furniture, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, doors, lockers and displays, barbecue trays and assembled furniture.
Powder coatings are a revolutionary change for the MDF market, not only with design freedom that no other coating method can provide, but also with colorful, beautiful, durable and dense coatings, while powder coatings also protect MDF from breaking and sticking stains, water stains and scratches. Challenges for thermal substrates: Some wood and wood products can conduct electricity and be coated directly because they contain a certain amount of moisture. Wood components that need to be polished can be used to remove surface contaminants with compressed air. In order to enhance the adsorption capacity of the surface, a conductive surface can be pre-treated with conductive fluid. These wood products then need to be warmed up to a set temperature to help the powder coating adhere to the surface, and a uniform surface temperature will contribute to the efficiency of the powder coating and the stability of the product coating. The charged powder coating is then sprayed to the MDF surface using a spray gun. MDF applications are mainly thermo-cured powder coatings or UV-cured powder coatings.
thermoclysted powder coating relies on infrared heating, tsvey heating or a mixture of the two, heat can make the powder coating melt flat, further cross-curing to form a coating. For specially formulated UV-cured powder coatings, melting and leveling are separated from the curing process, which is completed with very little thermal energy. The substrate is first heated by infrared or conflowal heating for 2 to 10 minutes, so that the coating melts flat, and then the substrate is placed in ultraviolet light, only a few seconds to complete the curing of the coating. The substrate is then naturally cooled or manually cooled to complete the coating, leaving the coating line. Powder coatings meet the needs of MDF products. Many office furniture manufacturers are moving away from standard shapes (e.g. rectangles, squares, etc.) and opting for more rounded corners to make computer cables, etc., better placed, in addition to achieving a variety of colors and effects through surface coatings. Powder coating does this well, while other surface treatments, such as edgeing, do not fully meet the requirements. In addition, powder coating can be done in one step without the need for multiple coatings or long drying times.
