    M-nitrocinnamic acid (m-nitrocinnamic acid) is also known as 3-nitrocinnamic acid, 3-(3-nitrophenyl)acrylic acid [3-(3-nitropheny/l)acrylic acid], the molecular formula is C 9 H 7 NO 4 , the molecular weight is 193.

    Product performance

    There are two isomers of cis and trans.
    The trans is yellow needle-like crystals; the melting point is 200~202℃; it is soluble in ethanol and hot benzene, slightly soluble in water, and soluble in alkaline aqueous solution; it can be sublimated and slightly distilled.
    Decomposition; cis melting point is 158℃, unstable
    .

    Benzaldehyde is nitrated to obtain m-nitrobenzaldehyde, which then undergoes condensation reaction with acetic anhydride in the presence of sodium acetate
    .

    Production process

    Add 2660kg of concentrated sulfuric acid into the dry nitration reactor, add 264kg of sodium nitrate under stirring , and increase the temperature to 75°C to dissolve the sodium nitrate
    .


    Cool down to 5°C, add 200kg benzaldehyde dropwise, and keep it at 5-8°C for 1h

    Laboratory preparation method

    In a round-bottomed flask equipped with a reflux condenser, add 100 g of m-nitrobenzaldehyde, 80 g of freshly melted sodium acetate and 140 g of acetic anhydride, and heat them in an oil bath at 180°C for 13 hours
    .


    Cool slightly, pour it into 500 mL of water to crystallize, filter by suction, dissolve in a solution of 40 mL of ammonia and 400 mL of water after washing, and filter
