Prysmian Group, a global leader in energy and telecom cable systems, today announced the successful completion of North Sea Link
, a submarine power interconnection project between the UK and Norway.
It is understood that North Sea Link is an undersea high-voltage DC cable system (1400MW, ±525kV) connecting Norway and the UK, which was developed by National Grid and Norwegian grid system operator Statnett in 2015 Prysmian was awarded a contract worth a total of €550 million to supply approximately 950 km of cable
.
According to Prysmian, the cables required this time were manufactured
at the company's Felice plant in Naples.
For the first time, North Sea Link shares renewable energy between the UK and Norway, supporting both countries to achieve net zero
.
With a total length of 720 km, the project is currently the world's longest submarine high-voltage DC cable system
.
It is reported that despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the group was still able to complete the installation and commissioning
of the submarine cable ahead of schedule.
