Prysmian Group, a global leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry, has been awarded a contract by Van Oord Offshore Wind B.
V.
to supply the Borssele III and IV offshore wind farms with submarine cable array cable systems
.
Under the contract, Prysmian will be responsible for the design, manufacture, supply and testing of approximately 175 km of 66 kV triple core XLPE insulated cable and all related accessories
.
The Borssele III and IV wind farms are part of the Borssele wind farm area located near the southern border of the Dutch Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) with a total installed capacity of 731.
5 MW and a single turbine capacity of 9.

Prysmian said: "This order reaffirms our leading role in the development of offshore wind farms in Europe and our project management skills to provide our customers with tailored, high-performance solutions
.
The offshore wind project will provide sustainable green electricity to more than 800,000 homes in the Netherlands and is part of a broader energy plan supported by the Dutch government to develop a new energy mix to achieve 16%
of electricity generated by renewable energy by 2023.
According to the plan, all cables will be produced
at Prysmian's Centre of Excellence in Pikkala, Finland.
Delivery of the cable will be completed in early 2020
.
