    With the gradual improvement of people's environmental and health requirements, toxic, solvent-based and other non-environmentally friendly building waterproof coatings gradually fade out of people's sight, the development of new environmentally friendly building waterproof coatings has become an urgent problem to be solved. Recently, the bio-based and bionic polymer team led by Wan Xiaobo Researcher of the Key Laboratory of Bio-Based Materials of the Chinese Academy of Sciences made important progress in the waterproofing materials of polyurethane buildings, successfully developed two types of environmentally friendly single-group polyurethane waterproof coatings, and successfully achieved pilot and engineering demonstration.
    At present, single-component polyurethane waterproof coating because of its simple construction and other advantages become the development direction of polyurethane waterproof coating, but there are still a large unit area (> 2kg/m2), the need to use a large number of organic solvents, need to be painted multiple times and other issues. At present, through the careful design of the molecular structure of polyurethane resin, the assistant researcher of bio-based and bionic polymer team Mu Youyu has successfully developed two types of polyurethane waterproof coatings with high extrusion strength and high fracture elongation, and has successfully achieved pilot and engineering demonstration (see Figure 1). One of the coatings is environmentally friendly solvent-free single-component polyurethane coating (Type I), with good water dispersion performance, after mixing with water (volume ratio polyurethane: water: 1:6) sprayed on the substrate surface, drying can form a fracture elongation rate of more than 1200%, stretch strength of more than 2.5MPa film. Another type of coating is fully hydrophobic solvent-free single-component polyurethane coating (Type II), can be directly sprayed in the appropriate wet state on the substrate surface and curing (curing time adjustable), the film and substrate surface has excellent adhesion, fracture elongation rate of more than 2500%, tensile strength of more than 9MPa.
    this polyurethane waterproof coating has a unique waterproofing concept: Type I polyurethane coating water-based curing agent, environmental protection and non-toxic, with a high degree of safety. And because of its small viscosity, can effectively penetrate the concrete inside to form a mutually reinforcing network structure, closed blocking the internal defects of concrete, not only play a waterproof and impermeable effect, but also can enhance the strength of concrete. The infiltration of waterproof coating can make the waterproof layer and the base concrete to achieve effective fusion, overcome the phenomenon of water flow between layers, but also reduce the leakage rate caused by surface scratching (destroying the surface waterproof film) of traditional waterproof coating. After spraying type I polyurethane coating, then spray type II polyurethane waterproof coating (see Figure 2), because type II polyurethane coating has excellent surface adhesion, wear resistance, water resistance and hydrolysolysed resistance, etc., can effectively protect the waterproof base, extend its service life, to achieve durable results.
    Due to the use of a unique waterproofing concept, the use of these two types of coatings, in the total spraying amount is less≤ (0.4 kg per square meter) under the conditions of good waterproofing effect, compared with the traditional single-component polyurethane waterproof coating, less dosing, low cost of use; The method of spraying construction is adopted, and the labor cost is low. Organic solvents are less used and more environmentally friendly. Therefore, there is a broad market prospects.
