    Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) accounts for approximately 25% of newly diagnosed breast cancers, and its detection rate is on the rise due to the popularity of breast cancer screening


    Since DCIS is a precursor to invasive breast cancer, and DCIS lesions that do not develop into invasive disease do not cause symptoms or death, there is growing concern about overtreatment of DCIS

    Recently, a study published in the journal Radiology evaluated clinical, histopathological, and imaging factors associated with low nuclear grade DCIS, and developed and validated a preoperative model to identify low nuclear grade DCIS and further define Specific factors associated with low nuclear grade DCIS at biopsy were identified


    This retrospective study included 470 female patients (median age, 50 years; interquartile range, 44-58 years) with 477 DCIS lesions at the time of surgical histopathological evaluation (January 2010 to 2015).

    Lesions presenting as a mass on US without microcalcifications and without villi on biopsy were used to create a preoperative model to identify low nuclear grade DCIS, with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve as high as 0.
