Spanish grid operator REE said in its summary of its 2020 forecast report that as of December 11, Spain used renewable energy technologies to produce 43.

of its electricity generation.
REE pointed out that this figure represents the highest proportion
of renewable energy in Spain's electricity mix since records began in 2007.
Coal-fired power plants, on the other hand, reduced production by 60% compared to 2019 and reached an all-time low of 2% of total electricity generation

As of December 11, power stations in Spain generated 109,269 GWh of renewable energy, an increase of 11.
6% year-on-year, mainly due to favorable weather conditions and an increase
in the total installed renewable energy capacity.
This year, the country added 2,706 megawatts of new wind and solar capacity and cut off connections to 3,486 megawatts of polluting power plants, mostly coal-fired units
.
Currently, Spain's total installed capacity reaches 109,674 MW, with renewable energy accounting for 53%
of the total installed capacity.
Although the overall level of electricity production in Spain fell by 4% in 2020 to 250,387 GWh, emissions from electricity generation fell by 27.
