The share of renewables in India's power generation mix could rise to around
    18% in 2022 from the current 7.
8% due to the continued focus on solar and wind energy growth, according to the report.
Global rating agency Moody's Investors Service said in its report that India is taking aggressive steps to align
its power generation portfolio with its NDC commitments under the Paris climate agreement.

"The share of renewables in new generation capacity has been the largest in the past two years, at about 60 percent, while coal-fired generation capacity has been added," said Moody's Investors Service, he added, adding that large companies have also announced plans to make their operations more energy efficient and access more renewable energy
    .

According to the agency, the share of renewables in the generation mix could rise to around 18% by 2022, compared to nearly 7.
    8%
    as of March 2018.

It also said the share of fossil-fuel-based power generation capacity could eventually fall to 50-55% from the current 67%
    by 2022.

"This trend partly reflects the fact that, in most cases, wind and solar power prices are comparable to or lower
than domestic coal projects," the analysts said.

According to the report, utilization of existing coal-fired power generation capacity has been declining since 2010 and was around 59% in fiscal year 2018, while annual growth in coal-fired capacity is likely to slow by 4-5%
    over the next five years.
