Spicy Wood Moringa Oleifere, also known as drumstick tree, is the perennian deciduous tree of Morangaceae, which is named Spicy Wood because of its spicy roots.
Spicy wood not only has very high nutritional value, such as rich in vitamins, protein, amino acids and beneficial to the human body calcium, potassium, iron and selenium and other nutrients, but also has a wealth of medicinal value, such as antibacterial, anti-cancer, antioxidant, blood sugar and blood lipids.
2012, China's Ministry of Health approved spicy wood leaves as a new resource food.
, people pay more and more attention to spicy wood leaves, but there is still a lack of in-depth study of its sugar-lowering, fat-lowering effect and its corresponding active ingredients.
the above background, Chen Guilin, associate researcher of the Department of Plant Chemical Biology of Wuhan Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, studied the sugar-lowering, fat-lowering activity and its related active ingredients of spicy wood leaves from Kenya, Africa.
inhibition activity of in vitro enzymes showed that spicy wood leaf extracts rich in flavonoids significantly inhibited alpha-glucosinease (alpha-glucosidase) and pancreatic lipase, respectively, in the metabolism of carbohydrates and lipids.
At the same time, spicy wood leaf extract can not only significantly promote the absorption of glucose by 3T3-L1 cells (Figure 1), but also significantly regulate the relevant bio-chemical indicators (TC, TG, HDL-C and LDL-C) of fat metabolism in 3T3-L1 cells, so as to better play the sugar-lowering and fat-lowering activity.
with alpha-glucosidase and pancreatic lipase as key targets, using affinity ultrafiltration mass spectrometrometrometrometromety (UF-LC/MS) technology, the researchers also screened and identified 11 of the spicy wood leaf extract, 7 with potentially sugar-lowering, fat-lowering active functional ingredients.
molecular docking show that the above functional compounds can be compared with the amino acid residues Tyr 158, Gln 279, His280, Asp 307, Arg 315, Gln 353, Glu 411 and Gly 601 form hydrogen bonds that form hydrogen bonds with the amino acid residues Asn 88, Arg 256, Asp 258, Tyr 267 and Tr 271 in pancreatic lipase, thus enhancing the binding ability of active small molecules to bio-target molecules.
This study shows for the first time the remarkable sugar-lowering and fat-lowering activity of spicy wood leaves in Kenya, Africa, as well as its potential functionally active chemicals, confirming that spicy wood leaves are natural drugs with good potential for sugar-lowering and fat-lowering activity, and providing a scientific basis for them as good folk medicinal plants and further clinical applications.
