A new study published by U.S. researchers says they analyzed positive samples of early neo-coronavirus in the Los Angeles metropolitan area of California and found that most of the samples had gene sequences similar to those of viruses originating in Europe, suggesting that early neo-coronavirus in Los Angeles may have been mainly imported from Europe.
research paper was published on the 7th in the Journal of the American Medical Association, the journal Open Network.
's paper notes that in an effort to find out how the new coronavirus was transmitted to southern California and to communities in Los Angeles, researchers at Ceders-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles genetically sequenced samples of 192 patients who tested positive for the new coronavirus indirectly between March 22 and April 15 this year, comparing them with genetic sequences from secondary samples from around the world, as well as gene sequences from New York City, Washington state and China, to determine possible sources of transmission.
, 82 percent of the samples had a genetic sequence similar to that of a virus originating in Europe, suggesting that the new coronavirus in Los Angeles is primarily associated with viruses originating in Europe, according to the study.
is similar to the findings of a previous study on early transmission of the virus in New York City, USA.
A study released July 16 by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that by analyzing positive samples of early neo-coronavirus in New York City, it was found that its genetic sequence was similar to that of viruses transmitted in Europe and other parts of the United States, suggesting that early neo-coronavirus in New York may have been transmitted mainly from europe and other parts of the United States.
