In September 2020, Professor Xia Nianhe’s team discovered an unknown bamboo plant in Chewan Village and Shangliao Village in Danxia Mountain.
The branches and scorpion pieces are reflexed, and the leaves are larger, showing a species of Dendrocalamus
.
After careful examination of the specimens, the team members found that this species is different from the similar species Dendrocalamus latiflorus and Dendrocalamus latiflorus.
At present, Professor Xia Nianhe’s team is conducting a systematic survey of bamboo plants in the Danxia Mountain area.
Up to now, 33 species of bamboo plants in 8 genera have been investigated.
Among them, bamboos for timber include brace bamboo, green-skin bamboo, and vermicelli bamboo.
Bamboo shoots include hemp bamboo, pink hemp bamboo, Bo's sweet dragon bamboo, hanging silk ball bamboo, big head bamboo, car tube bamboo and the newly discovered small hemp bamboo, etc.
Ornamental bamboos include giant Buddha belly bamboo and Xiaoqin silk bamboo.
