Scientists in the Russian Urals have synthesized compounds that stop the degeneration of neurons in patients with Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and other serious brain disorders, which could lead to breakthroughs in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases

According to Irina Utebova, a professor at the Department of Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry at the Ural Federal University, one of the main causes of brain diseases in the elderly is the accumulation of too many amyloid structures in the brain with age

Irina Utebova said that the main advantages of indolizine and pyrroxine series compounds are easy synthesis and low toxicity.

It is reported that experts from the Institute of Cytology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Organic Synthesis of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Ural Federal University participated in the research.
