Researchers at Kuzbass State Technical University in Russia have recently used tar anthracene oil fractions as solvents to develop a new coal-like pitch product that can increase the strength of composite materials and improve the properties of carbon fibers
Carbon fiber-based composite materials are used in aircraft manufacturing, rocket engineering, mechanical engineering and other fields.
Professor Tutatyana Cherkasova, director of the Institute of Chemical Petroleum and Natural Gas Technology of Kuzbass National University of Technology, said that coal pitch has the advantages of low price, rich carbon and low ash, stable performance, good adhesion, and reversible solid-liquid conversion.
Cherkasova said that Russian researchers used coal tar anthracene oil fraction as a solvent to obtain a new coal-like pitch product, which is a solid substance with a softening temperature of 70-150°C
