From 2022, Russia's largest fishing company, Norebo Holding, has decided to stop exporting pollock H&G (de-headed and gutted) raw materials to China and switch to the production of PBO fillets .

Norebo Vice President Sergey Sennikov told UCN: “In 2022 we have no plans to supply H&G to China
    .
Some of the H&G will enter the local and other markets, and in general, we will reduce H&G production
    .
The company plans to increase the capacity of large fishing and processing vessels in the Far East.
, with fish fillets (fish bricks and other forms of products) as the main product
    .

“Norebo is different from other producers, we don’t have vessels dedicated to H&G
    .
So H&G production is minimized, which of course also depends on the specific size of the catch,
    ” Sennikov said
    .

In the next few years, Norebo plans to add four new pollock fishing vessels in the Russian Far East.
A total of 10 vessels are currently under construction, four of which will be dispatched to the Far East, and the other six will perform cod and black lines in the western seas of Russia.

In addition to Norebo, the Russian Fisheries Corporation (RFC) also said it would reduce H&G production
    .

Savely Karpukhin, deputy director of commercial strategy at RFC, predicts that PBO fillet prices may rise to $4,500/t in 2022, up 17% from the previous season
    .

Considering the booming market, RFC vessels will increase the output of PBO and surimi.
The company will add 2 fishing and processing plants in 2022, and convert 1 H&G fishing vessel into a fish fillet processing vessel
    .

“We will scale back H&G production and expect to achieve H&G’s zero production target by mid-2022
    .
Thanks to our earlier investments, we believe this target is fully achievable,
    ” Karpukhin said
    .

RFC predicts that the production of H&G raw materials in Russia will drop to 400,000-450,000 tons in 2022, and the production reduction will be linked to the progress of China's logistics and epidemic prevention
    .
In 2020, the H&G production of pollock in Russia is about 700,000 tons, which will decrease to 540,000 tons in 2021
