Saudi Arabia plans to add 60GW of renewable energy by 2030

In an interview with UAE state news agency WAM, an official said Saudi Arabia plans to install 60GW of renewable energy
by 2030.

King Abdullah and president of Renewable Energy City said the plan will include 40GW of solar and 20GW of wind and other forms of clean energy
.
The move is part of Saudi Arabia's integration of more alternative energy sources within the framework of
KSA Vision 2030 and National Transformation 2020.

Saudi Arabia and Japanese software company Softbank made headlines last year for announcing plans for 200GW of solar, but the Middle Eastern country later rejected reports
that the plans were suspended.

Last week, it was reported that Saudi company ACWA Power had selected Chinese company Huawei as the sole inverter supplier for the 300MW Sakaka plant, Saudi Arabia's first large-scale solar project, acquired
at a record low price in early 2018.
