Saudi Arabia has signed power purchase agreements with seven new solar projects that will provide electricity to more than 600,000 homes
.
Including the new Sakaka solar project and the Dumat al-Jandal wind project, these new projects will have an installed capacity of more than 3,600 megawatts
.
Saudi Arabia's first renewable energy project, Sakaka, launched on Thursday with an installed capacity of 300 megawatts, is being developed
by Acwa Power, a company co-owned by Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund.
"These projects, along with other renewable energy projects being developed across the Kingdom, form the most important components of our plans to optimize the electricity energy mix
," Saudi said.

The plan is to produce half of the country's electricity
needed by 2030 with natural gas and renewable energy.
He added that this would replace about one million barrels of oil equivalent of liquid fuel
.
In addition, these new projects will be considered independent power producers, and Saudi Power Purchasing Company will purchase electricity
under a 20-25 year agreement.
