Scientists review the research progress and application of herbicide resistance genes |
Weeds in paddy fields not only directly reduce the yield and quality of rice, but are also the source of many diseases and insect pests, and indirectly affect the normal growth and development of rice and the formation of yield
.
Chemical weed control is the main measure to control weeds in rice fields.
Conventional herbicides have different weed-killing spectra due to their different mechanisms of action.
In recent years, a combination of special herbicide and herbicide-resistant rice varieties has been proposed to control weeds in paddy fields.
Therefore, herbicide-resistant rice has received more and more attention and has become an important direction of genetic breeding
.
Recently, the team of Xiaoyan Tang from South China Normal University and the team from Southern University of Science and Technology Deng Xingwang and other researchers published an online review article in Acta Crops (English Edition), comprehensively introducing the research progress and application of rice herbicide resistance genes
.
The article discusses from four aspects: the mechanism of action of the main categories of herbicides, including glyphosate, glufosinate-ammonium, acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibitors, acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase (ACCase) inhibitors, hydroxyl Phenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) inhibitors and dinitroanilines; the resistance mutation sites of the corresponding target genes of different herbicides and the detoxification mechanism of non-target genes against herbicides; through artificial mutagenesis and Mutant screening, transgene introduction of exogenous resistance genes, and gene editing to modify target genes to obtain herbicide-resistant rice materials; the application of herbicide-resistant rice in commercial production and the problems and solutions arising from the application process
.
Future research will focus on the creation of new herbicide-resistant rice, how to reduce the risk of herbicide application, and the selection of high-quality herbicide-resistant rice varieties suitable for different growing regions
.
With the development of molecular biology and modern biotechnology, the development and application of herbicide-resistant rice will be further improved and improved
