Senvion has signed a contract with power company EDL to supply wind power to a hybrid microgrid project in Coober Pei Land
, a remote town in southern Australia.
This is also the first off-grid power generation project
in which Senvion has participated.
The project will start in September and is expected to be operational
in the second half of 2017.
In addition to the use of two Senvion MM92 wind turbines (2MW of wind power), a combination of solar energy and battery storage will be used to reduce local use
of diesel fuel.
The nacelle and blades of the wind turbine are produced
by Senvion's plant in Portugal.
The Australian Renewable Energy Agency provided US$18.
4 million in funding for
the project.
Wind power plays a very important role
in helping remote areas and industries reduce the use of expensive fuels.
This pioneering microgrid project will demonstrate that remote applications
can be implemented not only in Australia but also in other parts of the world.
This is a new generation of off-grid projects, drawing on successful projects and using proven renewable energy technologies
