On May 18th, the journal Current Biology, a sub-issue of Cell, published online by Wang Guirong's research team at the Institute of Plant Protection of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, entitled "Optimal mating time for a sex pheromone antagonist". The research paper on optimal mating time in the moth, Helicoverpa amigera, using the latest CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing techniques combined with neuroelectrophysiological records, reveals for the first time the molecular mechanisms by which sex pygrant antagonists participate in regulating optimal mating time of cotton bellworms and clarifies their role.
chemical communication plays a very important role in insects' search for mates, food, and spawning locations, in which scaly-winged insects, especially ferns, rely on specific sexual information communication to find and identify the same mates suitable for mating.
Cotton bellworm female adenes released a variety of sex pygrophysics groups, in which the main group of sexual informationins has the function of attracting male insects to mate, but for the secondary groups of sexual informational information has not been clear about its function, it is speculated that may play a role in the formation of reproductive isolation with the same domain close relatives.
The study first found that the time of the main component of cotton bellworm volatile informationosis was inconsistent with the peak mating period, and further studies found that the content of 11-16 carpentol (Z11-16:OH) in female adenoids of different age was negatively corrosive to the mating rate of cotton bellworms, leading to speculation that "the secondary component of cotton bells Z11-16: OH may be involved in regulating the mating of cottonworms".
US using the CRISPR/Cas9 gene to knock out cotton bellworms to feel Z11-16: OH odor receptamol 16 (OR16), mutant males lost the electrophysiological response to 11-16 carpentol Z11-16: OH and the behavioral response to avoidance.
More importantly, mutant males cannot distinguish between sexually mature and immature females, mating with immature females under the action of the main component of sexual information, resulting in a significant reduction in hatching and survival rates of their offsomes.
This study reported for the first time that the secondary group of sex pyroteins, as an antagonist, participated in the regulation of optimal mating time of pests together with the main group of sex information, and clarified the molecular mechanism of this regulatory effect.
the study provides new ideas for the development of pest repellents and mating interferons based on sex informationogen antagonists.
the paper to plant protection institute as the first completion unit, jointly trained doctoral students Chang Hetan and Liu Yang associate researcher is the article's co-first author, Wang Guirong researcher for the paper communication author.
the research was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Innovation Engineering Project of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
