    Recently, Shanghai Petrochemical successfully carried out the project test of "development and industrial application of high-quality needle coke technology for the production of inferior oil slurry", and passed the appraisal of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China Petrochemical Technology, and the two batches of products were identified by international authoritative institutions, and both reached the international high-quality oil needle coke index level

    It is understood that "the development and industrial application of high-quality needle coke technology for the production of high-quality oil slurry" is a "ten dragons" scientific research project of Sinopec, which is jointly undertaken
    by Shanghai Petrochemical, Petrochemical Research Institute, engineering construction company and refining and marketing company.
    The project uses Shanghai Petrochemical catalytic oil slurry as raw material, through the adaptability transformation of the device, raw material pretreatment, adjustment of coking operating conditions and production process, relying on the existing coking device to develop high-quality needle coke (raw coke) products in batches, and develop the industrial production technology
    of inferior oil slurry to produce high-quality needle coke.

    In 2014, Shanghai Petrochemical completed the renovation
    of related equipment and supporting facilities.
    In July and September this year, Shanghai Petrochemical conducted tests in two batches and multiple process conditions in the coking unit, and produced the first tower of needle coke
    in July.

    Needle coke is the main raw material for the manufacture of advanced graphite electrodes, graphite products made of it have high electrical and thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion coefficient, low ablation and other characteristics, in the defense industry has a wide range of applications, especially in the metallurgical industry, the ultra-high power graphite electrode made of needle coke can significantly improve smelting efficiency, reduce power consumption and raw material consumption, reduce environmental pollution

    At present, the domestic production of needle coke can not be used for the production of ultra-high power graphite electrode, foreign high-quality needle coke technology and strict confidentiality, China has to rely on the import of 140,000 ~ 200,000 tons of high-quality needle coke every year to meet the market demand
