According to Dow Jones The Hague, May 22, Royal Dutch Shell shareholders on Tuesday rejected a proposal that would require the company to align its strategy with efforts to limit global warming, signaling shareholder support
for the measures the company has taken on climate change.
The proposal, made by Follow This, an activist shareholder group in the Netherlands, was supported by only 5% of shareholders' proxies
.
The proposal calls for Shell to set emissions targets that align with international community targets to limit global warming to less than 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels
.
Some of the same proposals last year, while gaining support from only 6 percent of shareholders, still helped push the company to set some broad emissions targets
.
In November, Shell announced a target to cut its carbon emissions in half by 2050, including vehicle emissions
from drivers using Shell fuel.
