On April 9, Shell announced that the company is restarting a 940,000-ton/year steam cracker at its Murdijk petrochemical plant in the Netherlands

Shell said it had closed on March 24 following an unplanned shutdown of the facility

Shell said earlier in a separate statement that it would carry out "significant maintenance" in Moordijk, including the inspection, cleaning and replacement of equipment parts across multiple units at the plant

Shell's Murdijk petrochemical plant is one of the largest petrochemical plants in Europe, producing 500,000 tonnes of propylene and 440,000 tonnes of benzene a year in addition to ethylene
