"Guangdong Zhanjiang Mangrove Afforestation Project" is China's first mangrove carbon sink project that meets the Certified Carbon Standard ( VCS ) and Climate Community Biodiversity Standard (CCB )
"'Blue carbon' generally refers to the fixed organic carbon of seagrass beds, mangroves, and salt marsh coastal ecosystems
According to the reporter's understanding, the project will develop 380 hectares of mangroves planted between 2015 and 2019 in the protected area in accordance with VCS and CCB standards.
It is expected to produce 160,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions from 2015 to 2055 .
The Beijing Entrepreneur Environmental Protection Foundation purchased the first 5880 tons of carbon dioxide emission reductions issued by the project to neutralize the carbon emissions of various environmental protection activities carried out by the organization .
In addition, this project is China's first project to achieve institutional carbon neutrality through a "blue carbon" carbon sink project.
All the proceeds from the transaction will be used to maintain the ecological restoration effects of the project area and also benefit the surrounding communities
