How does the size of graphene oxide sheet affect corrosion prevention? Researchers investigated the problem in a recently published study.
graphene oxide appears as an effective corrosion-resistant coating. However, the impact of graphene oxide sheet size on corrosion protection is still unclear
. In a new report, scientists look at the role of different graphene oxide (GO) plate sizes in corrosion-resistant coating formation. They provide valuable inputs for electrophoresis deposition, where smaller GO tablets spread more quickly during deposition to cause more oxygen reduction, resulting in a coating with higher hydrophobicity, greater adhesion and fewer pinholes.
GO plate has excellent corrosion resistance
detailed electrochemical impedance analysis shows that the coating formed by the smaller GO plate shows high water diffusion activity, resulting in slower water diffusion rate and lower penetration into the coating. The results show that smaller GO plates produce reliable coatings with excellent corrosion resistance.
The study was published in Progress in Organic Coatings, volume 134, September 2019, pp. 272-280.
