Cancer cells are one of the most cunning cells we know.

It should be understood that cell morphology is determined by its function and is also distributed in different organs of the human body.

Recently, there have been new research findings on this issue.

In this study, the research team used type I collagen extracellular matrix and DMA-MB-23, a highly invasive breast cancer cell line commonly used in medical research, as the research object, and systematically changed the collagen concentration, arrangement and temperature by adjusting the collagen concentration, arrangement and temperature.

The researchers found that 3D migrating cancer cells exhibited a rapidly fluctuating shape, and their cell morphology appeared as a random walk in a geometric space

In order to understand the underlying mechanism of cell phenotypic transition, the researchers examined the effect of Rho/ROCK signaling on cancer cells

Rho/ROCK signal internally controls the meso-scale morphological performance of 3D cultured MDA-MB-231 cells

The researchers also changed the physical characteristics of ECM from the perspectives of temperature, density, and arrangement, and further understood the deformation and migration of cancer cells.

All in all, in this study, the scientists demonstrated the gradual changes in the shape and movement program of cancer cells as they approach and pass through these matrix interfaces
